First Clay County Soldier to Die From Wounds in Korea


Mr. Pruitt was born in 1929 to Mr. and Mrs. Clovis E. Pruitt. He was a native of Clay County, Mississippi where he attended West Point schools and graduated from Siloam High School. He entered the Army in 1948 and served almost three years. He was discharged on July 15, 1950 but the following day, he re-enlisted for another six years.

He was sent to Korea in August, 1950 and assigned as an artilleryman in the 23rd Regiment of the 2nd Division. On September 5, 1950, he was wounded in his foxhole and died of his wounds enroute to a U.S. Hospital in Hawaii.
