Mr. Moore was born April 28, 1924, to Charles Andrew and Maggie Lou Moore. He was a graduate of Montpelier High School and had farmed before entering the Army. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 4, 1943 and was assigned to the 36th Infantry Division, the famed "Fighting 36th." On his last furlough home before going overseas, his younger brother took seriously ill with meningitis and died. The Army extended his leave for 5 days, so he could attend the funeral before being sent overseas.

Private Moore was engaged in combat operations in North Africa in April, 1944. After D-Day, as a part of the Seventh Army, the 36th Division led the Allied invasion of southern France and battled the Germans through the Vosage Mountains. Private Moore was killed in hostile combat action on September 22, 1944 in Eloys, France. His body was originally buried in a cemetery in Besancon, France but was returned home after the war. Funeral services were held at the Palestine Methodist Church. Bruce had 8 brothers and sisters to survive him, Martha Lou, Billy Henry, Virginia, Hugh Milton, Robert Boyd, Joe Waymon, Lucy Faye, and Glenda Jane.
