As a young man Mr. Kehl delivered the local newspaper, The Daily Times Leader, and graduated from the West Point High School.

Mr. Kehl departed from West Point, Mississippi in the service of his country in November 1942. He receivied his training at several Army Infantry bases including, Camp Blanding, Florida, Fort Benning, Georgia and Camp Adebery, Indiana. He was sent overseas in Febuary 1944.

He participated in Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of France against Nazi Germany on June 6, 1944. He was killed in action in France on August 8, 1944. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Maud Kehl, eleven sisters and one brother.

Sergeant Kehl is buried in the American Cemetary at Saint Jame, France, pictured above in a 1998 photo.
