Mr. Jones was born, reared, and educated in West Point, Mississippi. After graduation from school, he enlisted in the Army in January 1944. After basic training and field manuveurs training, he was sent overseas to the European theater of operations.

On October 8, his mother, Mrs. Hugh Jolly, of West Point, received word on that her 20 year old son had been wounded in action in Italy. Unfortunately, he died of his wounds on October 14, 1944. In addition to his mother, he was survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Vandiver, of Columbus, Mississippi.
