Paul Stephen Hite
Lieutenant
U.S. Army Air Corps

Mr. Hite was not a native clay Countian, but nevertheless, he lived here a few years prior to entering the service. He was owner of the local Western Auto store and was married to Miss Mable Convers. He was a pilot and was killed in action on March 24, 1943, in India when his plane struck trees at the end of the runway. The flight in which he was killed was not his assigned flight. He volunteered for the mission when the scheduled pilot became ill. His body was returned to the United States and is buried in Arkansas.
