John Howard Goode
Seaman First Class
U.S. Navy Reserve

Mr. Goode was born on August 30, 1925, and was killed in the Pacific on July 29, 1944, at the age of 18 years.

He had been in service for slightly more than one year when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Goode, of Big Springs were notified that he died as a result of a premature explosion of a mortar shell. He and several other seamen were on a barge loaded with Japanese weapons, which had been captured as U.S. forces recaptured a Pacific island. The weapons were being taken out to be dumped at sea.

Mr. Goode was survived by his brothers Walter "Buster", Charles Daniel "Charley", Ross and sister Roma.

Mr. Goode's gravesite can be found at Enon Cemetery in Clay County.
