Mr. Daniels was born in 1948. He attended the Fifth Street High School, MI, and College in West Point, Mississippi. He enlisted in the Army in August of 1968 and was sent to Vietnam in March 1969.
Private First Class Daniels was a rifleman in the third platoon, C Company, 2nd Battalion, of the 5th Airmobile Cavalry. On April 6, 1969, the 3rd platoon came under intense enemy rocket and automatic weapons fire and was pinned down in the open with little cover or concealment. Without hesitation, Private Daniels crawled forward to within 10 feet of an enemy bunker in a heroic attempt to eliminate the enemy fire. He was hit by enemy fire from an unknown position and died of his wounds.
For his heroic actions, Private Daniels was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for valor, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, and 10 other decorations.
Private Daniels was survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters.
